Message from Aaron A. Peace - President, Dignity Health Foundation – East Valley

There is so much great work being done to support Dignity Health in the East Valley I can't begin to adequately thank everyone!  However, I would be remiss if I did not thank all of our volunteer board members, golf committee and campaign committees whose time and talents are invaluable in our efforts. I would like to thank Jack Martin specifically for his recognition as Board Member of the Year.  Jack has donated countless hours towards making our capital campaign successful, along with his board duties and his recent co-chairmanship of the fall gala with his wife Linda.

This award was presented at the recent Presidents' Reception, an inaugural event where Tim Bricker, president of Chandler Regional and Mercy Gilbert Medical Centers joined me in thanking our generous donors.  It was a night to remember with doctors like Dr. Kip Sharpe, Dr. Taro Kaibara, Dr. Richard Oh, and Dr. Dell Moore presenting the future of our two hospitals, including the expansion of the neuroscience, orthopedics, and trauma services at Chandler.

As if this was not exciting enough, Joe Anderson, our Philanthropist of the Year recipient, stood up and made an exciting announcement that he pledged a $100,000 matching gift from his Anderson Family Foundation (see his story below). The Presidents' Reception was held at the private museum of car enthusiast Ron Pratte, which was an experience none of us will ever forget. Thanks to Dr. Gary Nagamoto, our campaign co-chair and his family for securing this incredible opportunity and of course a big shout out to Ron Pratte for allowing us to view his special collection.

In closing, there are so many good things happening here at the Dignity Health Foundation – East Valley and I invite you to get involved in supporting our efforts.

You make the difference!

All my best,

Aaron A. Peace

12th Annual George Rozsa Golf Classic to Support Emergency and Trauma Services in Southeast Valley

Ensuring emergency and trauma services are there for you when you need them - what a great reason to golf! It's time for the 12th annual George Rozsa Golf Classic, honoring the Rozsa family for founding and supporting our fundraising tournament. It will be a fun networking day April 25, 2014 at the beautiful Ocotillo Golf Resort in Chandler, Arizona.  Shotgun start at 11 a.m. means golfers will come off the course around 3:30 p.m., just in time for a relaxing awards reception.  Guests can meet their golfers at the reception for just $50 (sponsor guests are included with a sponsorship).

The weather should be great in April and the course will again be gorgeous as sponsor Ocotillo Golf Resort welcomes the George Rozsa tournament benefiting Dignity Health's Chandler Regional and Mercy Gilbert Medical Centers.  Golfers will be treated to a player shop and enjoy a brunch before the shotgun start. Coming off the course, they will be treated to a wonderful afternoon reception hosted by the Dignity Health East Valley Volunteer organization, plus earn lots of prizes and tee-gifts.

The Dignity Health Foundation - East Valley would like to thank our new and returning major sponsors. Their support plays a stellar role in the success of the event, each contributing more than $5,000 each. Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to title sponsor Premier Emergency Medical Specialists, and to major sponsors Dignity Health East Valley Volunteers, Barrow Neurological Associates, Spectrum Retirement Community, Pioneer Hospitalist Group, the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Arizona Cardinals, AlphaGraphics of Chandler and Gilbert, Ocotillo Golf Resort and Troon Golf.

"We are pleased to again be the title sponsor of this tournament; it continues to be a first-class experience for golfers, and raising money to benefit the hospitals makes it all the better,” said Rona Sedley from Premier Emergency Medical Specialists and a volunteer member of the golf committee.

Three incredible hole-in-one prizes packages are going to be offered by sponsors: San Tan Ford, Peggy Bauer and Cactus Mountain Properties and KC's Home Health.  And Premier Community Management will sponsor our amazing beverage cart and treats on the course.

Event contests are supported by Almeria at Ocotillo, Cannon and Wendt, and Valley Women for Women. The entire event will be supported by more than 50 volunteers!  Thanks to our volunteer committee and all of the volunteers who are sure to make the 12th annual event gross MORE than $150,000 for our hospitals.

It's not too late to sponsor a hole or a team!  Contact the Dignity Health Foundation – East Valley at 480-728-3931.

Share Your Passion for Dignity Health on 2nd Annual Arizona Gives Day

Arizona Gives Day is a statewide, 24-hour, online giving campaign.  It is a way for people to find, learn about and contribute to causes they believe in.  It's a day to share your passion about Dignity Health – our medical centers, our urgent care centers, and our outreach programs with all of your friends!  In 2013, over $1 million was raised for Arizona non-profits and Dignity Health has joined the campaign this year.

Wednesday, April 9th marks the 2nd annual statewide day of giving and you can request that your Arizona Gives Day donation goes to the Dignity Health Foundation – East Valley. Every gift counts and helps bring quality healthcare to all the people in the Southeast Valley. Your sharing this day and this commitment on all of your social media would mean the world to all of the patients who need care in the Southeast Valley.

Children's Dental Clinic Receives Grant from Delta Dental of Arizona Foundation

A HUGE THANK YOU goes out to the folks at Delta Dental of Arizona Foundation for the grant that will allow us to continue the great work we do with our Children's Dental Clinic. The $21,688 grant will be used to provide dental clinic visits to an additional 250 children and community-based oral health education to 400 children and parents at WIC offices, immunization clinics, childcare centers, and health fairs. The Children's Dental Clinic began seeing patients at San Marcos Elementary School in 2008. Using portable equipment, the program provides exams, professional cleanings, radiographic imaging, sealants, fluoride varnish treatments, and oral health/nutritional education to low-income children.  Now located at the Chandler CARE Center, on the campus of Galveston Elementary School, the clinic has three operatories, is licensed by the State Department of Health Services, and is Joint Commission (hospital accreditation) certified. Chandler Regional Medical Center is committed to supporting the clinic and provides Administrative, Quality Assurance, Corporate Compliance, Human Resources, Employee Wellness, Environment of Care, and Infection Prevention oversight, sterilization services and myriad other support services.

Joe Anderson Family Foundation Issues NEW Challenge Grant | Pledge Today!

At our recent Presidents' Reception to thank donors, Foundation President Aaron Peace and Board Chair Joan Krueger presented Joe Anderson and the Anderson Family Foundation with the philanthropist of the year honor. True to form, Joe surprised the audience by thanking the Board, the hospital and then making a $100,000 challenge grant to inspire the community towards raising funds specifically to buy equipment needed to support the Level I Trauma certification that Chandler Regional Medical Center has received. Please consider supporting the new level of care at Chandler Regional Medical Center by giving, at any level, to help the hospital reach this match.  Donate Now!

Joe has a history with Dignity Health and the Sisters of Mercy, and has been inspired by the lives of Sisters Mary Roqueta and Margaret McBride. Joe is the former owner of Schaller Anderson Insurance (now an Aetna company), and is a close friend and former business colleague of Tom Marreel, the Capital Campaign Co-chair and a member of both the foundation and hospital boards. Joe has been inspired by Tom's passion and he deeply believes in the mission and values of Dignity Health and its hospitals.

So it was "the natural thing to do,” he says, to support the recent campaign to build the addition for the hospital and do it in a way that inspired others to follow suit. The Anderson Family Foundation of Phoenix, Ariz. and Napa Valley, Calif. offered a match challenge to Dignity Health's East Valley community to raise $500,000 between April 22, 2012 and July 4, 2013. Hospital employees, physicians, volunteers, and the East Valley community rallied to the challenge and raised more than $500,000, including encouraging large corporate and foundation donors to support this burgeoning campaign. For this reason, Joe and his family were named Philanthropist of the Year as they continue to inspire giving and sharing.

Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust Awards Grant

The Dignity Health Foundation – East Valley is proud to receive a $500,000 grant from the prestigious Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust of Phoenix, Ariz.  As the Phoenix area has grown, so has the need for quality medical care in the southeast valley.  Chandler Regional Medical Center is expanding by almost 100 beds and plans to expand healthcare services by opening a new tower and new emergency department this fall. The Board of Directors for the Foundation is pleased to receive this grant as it represents a milestone in our $5 million community campaign.

"The Piper Trust grant represents excellence and commitment," said Board President Joan Krueger. "Their grant comes only when our community and foundation board members and our employees all participate, and when our compelling case as to the great community need for our healthcare service is evident.”

The Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust is a private foundation, honoring the philanthropic legacy of Virginia Galvin Piper, that works to strengthen the health and quality of life of people residing in Maricopa County, Arizona, a region that includes Phoenix and that nearly 4 million people call home. The Trust pursues this goal by investing in six areas: Arts and Culture, Children, Education, Healthcare and Medical Research, Older Adults and Religious Organizations.

Please join the prestigious Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust in completing our $5 million dollar campaign to expand healthcare services later in the year.  You may pledge your gift across 5 years and be counted in this once-in-a-lifetime campaign.

Dignity Health Foundation - East Valley gives $1.1 million in support of Chandler Regional's New Trauma Designation

Chandler Regional Medical Center will open its doors as a Level I trauma center on Monday, March 24, only a few months before the opening of its new patient tower, which will include a state-of-the-art emergency department. The Dignity Health Foundation – East Valley is proud to have a significant part in making the new trauma designation a reality through a million dollar grant.

In a partnership with Barrow Neurological Institute, as a Level I trauma center, Chandler Regional Medical Center will have medical and surgical specialists on hand around the clock to provide the full range of care for every aspect of injury from prevention through rehabilitation. Chandler Regional trauma surgeons will specialize in the areas of orthopedics, neurosurgery, cardiac surgery, thoracic surgery, hand surgery, vascular surgery, plastic surgery, obstetric and gynecologic surgery, ophthalmology, otolaryngology, and urology.

The Level I trauma designation has been received from the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) to ensure the medical center is approved and equipped to treat the most life-threatening injuries, such as serious motor vehicle accidents, gunshot wounds, falls, and crush injuries.  The American College of Surgeons will then validate this designation through a rigorous process and the collection of data over time.  In addition to the new facilities and new team members, specialized equipment must be purchased and available to the trauma team.

"The Dignity Health Foundation – East Valley board of directors is proud to have a hand in saving lives by treating patients when time and talent is critical,” said President Aaron Peace. "This is a significant milestone for Chandler Regional Medical Center brought about in a large part by our donors and supporters. We hope to continue to raise funds to provide all of the needed equipment.”

Three Ways to Make a Difference

1. Create an endowment.

You can do this now with cash or stock, or later with an estate gift. Your fund will make a lasting difference by producing income every year for the stated purpose.

2. Leave a bequest.

Designate an amount or percentage of your estate for a specific purpose or for unrestricted use. Such gifts provide encouragement and always make a difference.

3. Give "obsolete” insurance.

You may no longer need the protection of a life insurance policy and can transfer ownership to Dignity Health Foundation East Valley, thereby making a significant difference down the road and providing yourself with an income tax charitable deduction now.
